    More Information:

"Witzung [1500?-1571] German pharmacist and author born in Augsburg. He studied in Venice and had a humanist education. Besides his famous Artzneybuch, of which ours is a translation; he translated the Celestina [twice] and the works of the Italian heretic Bernardino Ochino. The General Practice was an extremely influential and popular text. "Books on the practice of medicine also helped readers to access information about plants.. Thus the physician whose classical training was less than it might be, and surgeons, apothecaries, and lay people without Latin could tap into the jargon of learned medicine. Such indexes (as that in our book) confirm the enormous amount of information that's existed about remedies, whilst helping readers in processing the data..."
