    Tabart's Collection of Popular Stories for the Nursery: from the French, Italian, and Old English Writers, Newly Translated and Revised. London: Printed for Tabart & Company, 1804-1809. First editions. Four volumes. Twelvemo (in sixes) measuring 3.5 x 5.5 inches; 89 x 140 mm). Part I: [i-iv], frontispiece, 187, [1] pages (last page is list of works published by Tabart); engraved frontispiece plus five engraved plates. Part II: [i-iv], frontispiece, 181, [3] pages (last 3 pages contain list of works published by Tabart); engraved hand-colored frontispiece plus five hand-colored engraved plates. Part III: [i-iv], 188, [4] pages (last 4 pages is a list of books published by Tabart); engraved frontispiece plus five engraved plates. Vol. IV: [i-iv], 129 [sic, actually 219], [1] pages (last page is a book advertisement); engraved frontispiece plus two engraved plates. Parts I and II are bound in red quarter leather and paper boards and Parts III and Vol. 4 are bound in black quarter leather and paper boards; all are covered in salmon paper wrappers. Spines worn on all volumes, spines splitting on Part II and III. All paper covers are rubbed and worn. Some internally foxing and thumbsoiling. Overall good. Each volume has a bookplate of the bibliographer Marjorie Moon. Ownership inscription in three of the four volumes.

    A rare collection popular nursery stories published and sold by Benjamin Tabart (1767-1833), which includes the first printed version of Jack and the Beanstalk (in volume 4) in 1804. Title changes slightly in parts II-III and volume IV Tabart's Collection of Popular Stories for the Nursery; Newly Translated and Revised from the French, Italian, and Old English Writers. Volumes 1-3 are listed as parts on the title pages, while the final volume, published later, is listed as volume 4 on the title page. The first three volumes, published in 1804, were issued as parts I, II, and III. The final volume, published in 1809, was issued as volume IV.
