Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There. London: Macmillan and Co., 1898. "People's Edition" Forty-ninth Thousand. Octavo. [8], 208, [8, "Christmas-Greetings" and advertisements].


    Both works with frontispieces and numerous illustrations by John Tenniel. Similarly bound in red morocco with gilt rules on boards (one set straight, the other waved), five raised spine bands with gilt stamped titles and devices in compartments. Alice's Adventures. with all edges gilt and on-laid gilt medallions showing Alice on the front board and the Cheshire Cat on the rear. Through the Looking Glass with marbled endpapers.


    Alice's Adventures. with ink gift inscription on unnumbered poem page following title. Through the Looking Glass with small hole in outer margin of M7, not affecting the text or illustrations.


    Page creases, some foxing, soiling and staining (more frequent in Through the Looking Glass). Overall a very good pair of books.
