Previous owner's gift inscription on the ownership page. Moderate scuffing to the slipcase spine. Overall, a near fine copy. "Apparently, there was only one printing of The Tin Woodman of Oz issued by Reilly & Britton; in 1919 the firm changed its name to Reilly & Lee." Hanff, Greene 73-74 [and:] The Patchwork Girl of Oz. Chicago: The Reilly & Britton Co., [1913]. First edition, with corrected "CHAP. THREE" on page 35. Octavo. 341 pages plus six pages of advertisements. Color pictorial endpapers. Color frontispiece. Illustrated by John R. Neill. Publisher's light green cloth with the spine and front board lettered and decoratively stamped in dark green, orange, and yellow. No dust jacket. Housed in a custom red quarter-leather slipcase with gilt spine titles inside five raised bands and a cloth tri-fold chemise. Moderate shelf wear to the boards. Mild dust-soiling to the spine and rear board, and textblock edges. Corners lightly bumped. Slipcase rubbed along the spine, and the cloth along the top edge is starting to peel back. All in all, the book itself is in very good condition. "There are no inserted color plates; color is used in many of the text illustrations." Hanff, Greene 63-66. A marvelous pair of Baum Oz books in matching slipcases, fit for any respectable Baum collection.
