Description
L. Frank Baum. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. With Pictures by W. W. Denslow. Chicago & New York: Geo. M. Hill, 1900. First edition, first state of plates and text. Square octavo. [261] pages. Colored illustrations by W. W. Denslow including twenty-four inserted plates. Original pictorial cloth, binding tight; minor wear, a bit of staining and rubbing. Pictorial pastedowns, all edges trimmed and stained yellow; top edge a bit darkened. Internally clean and bright, color on plates particularly striking; text block ever-so-slightly toned, scattered minor spotting. Overall, near fine and seldom seen in such excellent condition.First edition of this great classic, first state of both plates and text: the verso of the title page is blank, the plate facing page 34 has a moon with two blots, and the plate facing page 92 has a red horizon; on page [2] there is a box around the ads, on page 14 the first line reads "low wail on", on page 81 the fourth line from bottom spells "pieces" incorrectly ("peices"), on page 227 the first line reads "While Tin Woodman," at the end of the text the colophon is eleven lines and boxed, and on pages 100 and 186 the type is perfect.
The binding is state "B" which is identical to "A" but stamped in red rather than green. "A" is now thought to be simply a trial binding.
Bienvenue, pages 1-6; Hanff/Greene I.1; Peter Parley to Penrod, pages 111-113.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.View More Testimonials
As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
HA.com receives more traffic than any other auction house website. (Source: Similarweb.com)
