First Wyeth edition, limited to 770 unnumbered copies and signed by the author and the illustrator. Large octavo (9.25 x 7 inches; 235 x 179 mm.). [2, blank], viii, [2, fly title], 400 pages; fourteen full-color plates, with two black and white plates and a facsimile copy of a two-page letter from Wyeth. Publisher's bluish green cloth, spine lettered in gilt, front board stamped in gilt; top edge gilt, others untrimmed; illustrated endpapers; in the original slipcase with thick paper folder. Backstrip faintly dulled; joints barely discolored; some very faint spotty discoloration to the covers. Text block just barely sagging; few minor scuffs to the top of the text block. Folder spine panel faintly dulled; rear fold starting; some faint foxing and trivial edgewear. Slipcase somewhat soiled; some edges worn and starting; faint tidemark along a bottom edge. Near fine overall. Typed letter, signed, by Rawlings on her stationery laid in, dated April 4, 1944. Winner of the 1939 Pulitzer Prize for the Novel. From the James C. Seacrest Collection.
