    Description

[Confederate Imprint]. The New Texas Reader.
Houston: E. H. Cushing, 1864. First edition. 12mo. vii; [1]; 184 pages. (pages iii through 26 are in facsimile).

Original pictorial boards with linen backstrip. Boards are scuffed, toned and shelf worn but the integrity of the binding remains sound. The contents are toned but in remarkable condition given the quality of printing in the late-war period. A few instances of youthful penciled marginalia scattered throughout. Taken in total, a very good copy. Housed in a beautiful clam shell case with decoration and titles stamped in gilt.

Includes accounts of the battles of Galveston, Fordoche, Sabine Pass and others. The Steck Company of Austin produced a facsimile edition of this rare work in 1962.

    References: Parrish 7705.
