    More Information:

Charles Willeford. The Burnt Orange Heresy. New York: Crown Publishers, [1971]. First edition. Presentation copy. Warmly inscribed by Willeford on the dedication page: "To Jeanellen Mayers,/My buddy, confidant,/friend, and fellow-conspirator/against the vagaries (curse/them!) who dog the/spirits of artists and/non-educators./Love,/Charles Willeford/Nov. 24, 1971". Octavo. 190, [2,blank] pages. Publisher's full orange cloth, spine lettered in silver. Original dust jacket. Cloth spine a bit sunned; some rubbing and sunning to edge of binding; some soiling to edges of text block. Binding skewed. Dust jacket spine somewhat toned; minor rubbing to jacket; flaps creased at upper edges. Overall, a near fine copy with a superb inscription. This title was Willeford's first hardcover novel.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
