Ten inserted plates, and with two later plates from the second edition laid in. List of Illustrations appears after Contents. Uniformly bound in sumptuous three-quarter black morocco over marbled boards by Launder & Macdonald, with spines decoratively titled and tooled in gilt inside five raised bands. Gilt borders on the boards. Top edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. Original cover and spine of the Second Series copy affixed to the rear endpapers. Minor shelf wear to the boards. Bookplate to each front pastedown. Dickens Centenary 2c stamp to each front free endpaper. A few instances of offsetting from laid in newspaper clippings. Marginal ink stain to the last 30 pages of volume one. Very minor occasional foxing. Overall, this charming set is in near fine condition. Smith I, 1 and 2.
