Charles Dickens. Bleak House. London: Bradbury & Evans, Mar. 1852-Sept. 1853. Original serial issue. Twenty parts in nineteen. Octavo. Eight to twenty-four pages of preliminary ads in each part; text paginated continuously 1-624; eight leaves of preliminaries follow text in Part XIX/XX. Vignette title-page, frontispiece, and thirty-eight additional inserted plates by H. K. Browne, ten of which are "dark" pages. Original light blue illustrated paper wrappers. Subtle repairs to majority of backstrips, with some mild chipping remaining; handful of wrappers pulling away at head or foot, but all still sound; occasional tiny repairs to edges or corners of wrappers; wrappers generally a bit rubbed, soiled, some with previous owner signatures; two issues with incorrect rear wrappers. Interiors dulled; two issues with no rear ads; five issues lacking "Household Words" slip that is supposed to follow plates; a few other issues lacking slips or supplying extra ones at rear ads; text block edges softened and slightly soiled, with evidence of handling. Very good overall. Includes "Village Pastor" advertisement in Part XV. Hatton & Cleaver, pp. 275-304.
