Description

Carroll John Daly. Murder Won't Wait. New York: Ives Washburn, 1933. First edition. Octavo (7.5 x 5.125 inches; 190 130 mm.). [2, blank], viii, 307, [3, blank] pages. Publisher's light green cloth, spine lettered in black with embossed publisher's device, front board ruled in blind, in original dust jacket. Very gentle spine lean; backstrip dulled; spine ends and corners worn with some lightly fraying; boards lightly soiled, with one dark blemish to rear board. Faint indentation to front endpaper from previous owner's penciled signature, since erased; small rubber stamped to rear free endpaper; trace light thumbsoiling. Dust jacket edges lightly worn, with a few minor nicks and tiny closed tears; front panel lightly rubbed; white background of rear panel lightly soiled with shallow marginal rippling near joint fold; verso lightly rubbed. Very good overall in a nice example of the dust jacket. "One of the most important figures in the history of the genre, Carroll John Daly was instrumental in the development of the hard-boiled school of crime writing...he is credited with writing one of the first hard-boiled crime stories with 'The False Burton Combs' which appeared in Black Mask magazine, December 1922." (Steven Powell. 100 American Crime Writers. Houndmills: 2012. p. 96). From the KoKo Collection.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
