    More Information:

"A second edition, in which the type was reset, was published in 1783, the only points of difference from the first, apart from a few typographical changes, being in respect of the ornament and the date on the title-page.

"Both French editions are or great rarity and are of interest not only on that account but because of the additional matter which they contain. This consists of some notes of no particular value but very typical of the philosophy of pre-revolutionary France by a person who styles himself Roland, and also a brief life of Cook which contains some side-lights on his character not to be found elsewhere. This life is a free translation of an article in a German magazine - Göttingsches Magazin der Wissenschaften und Litteratur, 1780. The accuracy of the information given - in point of fact it is by no means free from error - is stated to be vouched for by "Mr. Lichtenberg, célèbre professeur à Goettingue, & Mr. Forster, aussi professeur à Cassel." The Mr. Forster referred to is George Forster; he is said to have derived his information regarding the third voyage generally and Cook's death in particular from Zimmermann himself and another German named Lohmann, a quarter-master in the Discovery."

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
