    Description

    Inscribed by Keynes

John Maynard Keynes. A Tract on Monetary Reform. London: Macmillan and Co., 1924. Second impression. Inscribed "Dedicated by the author to Mr. Gladitz." Octavo. viii, 209, 2 pages of publisher's ads. Publisher's full blue cloth with blind ruling to both covers and gilt titles and ruling to spine. Covers and extremities lightly rubbed with front board rather bowed. Very light foxing to preliminaries and terminals. Otherwise, a better than very good copy of this important monetarist work.

"It is often supposed that the costs of production are threefold...labor, enterprise and accumulation. But there is a fourth cost, namely, risk; and the reward of risk-bearing is one of the heaviest, and perhaps the most avoidable, burden on production...The adoption by this country and the world at large of sound monetary principles, would diminish the wastes of risk, which consume at present too much of our estate." From the James and Deborah Boyd Collection.
