One of 350 numbered copies, of which this is number 68, signed and dated by Bret Harte. Volume XXI: The Life of Bret Harte signed by author Henry C. Merwin. Twenty-one octavo volumes. Numerous photogravure frontispieces, vignette titles, and plates after drawings and paintings by Mary Hallock Foote, Eric Pape, Frederic Remington, et al., twelve of which are signed, including the plate by Frederic Remington. Three-quarter red morocco over cloth with gilt-stamped titles and decorations on spine. Five raised bands with six ruled compartments. Top edge gilt, others uncut. Some shelf wear and rubbing to extremities, particularly at corners. Toning to page edges. A near fine set.
