Full antique calf, gilt ruling, hinges split. Banded spine, gilt stamp paneling, green morocco label with title in gilt lettering, some damage to head, wear to tail. Marbled edges. Light browning. Bookplate of Sidney A. Kirkman on front pastedown. Front board detached. [misprint on p. 113, line 9 (the word 'on' after 'effect' omitted, with errata leaf.] Very good.     More Information: John Stuart Mill (1806-1873), English philosopher, economist, and administrator; educated entirely by his father; before he was fourteen had studied classical literature, logic, political economy, history, general literature, and mathematics.  He was "the most influential philosopher of the English-speaking world during the nineteenth-century and is generally held to be one of the most profound and effective spokesmen for the liberal view of man and society."
