    More Information:

Grove, Joseph (d. 1764), biographer. "Grove practised as an attorney and amassed considerable wealth. After his retirement from the practice of the law Grove wrote a number of historical works which made little impact either on contemporaries or on subsequent historians. He had a passion for adorning his books with copperplates, which from their unintentional comicality serve to relieve the heaviness of the text. His principal work was The History of the Life and Times of Cardinal Wolsey (1742). This was followed by several further essays on Wolsey and a biography of the Cavendish family, The Lives of All the Earls and Dukes of Devonshire (1764)." [Oxford DNB]   ESTC n11157. Lowndes 951. Geneaology. English History. Biography.
