Two Scripts and Photo Album from a Play About
    D.G. Rossetti and the Pre-Raphaelites

[Pre-Raphaelites]. John Ferguson and N.C. Hunter. The Merciless Lady: A Play in Four Acts with Prologue and Epilogue. Birmingham Repertory Theatre Ltd., 1934. Two single-sided typed scripts and a photo album from the unpublished play about Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Elizabeth Siddal, and other members of the Pre-Raphaelite circle, which began its run at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre on October 6, 1934. Included is a letter dated "31st December, 1959" from the Birmingham Repertory Theatre to Mr. Fredeman, responding to his inquiry about the play.

The first script, 103 pages, is the actor's copy of Miss Elspeth Duxbury, who played Elizabeth Siddal, and has additional holograph pencil directions and cue marks throughout. Bound in brown paper covers with a cloth ribbon, holograph pen title and character name on front cover. Covers with creases and edge tears; title page is loose. The second script, 123 pages, is a clean copy bound with a string, few holograph corrections. Both scripts have minor creases, small corner bends, light edge wear with small tears, and occasional foxing and smudges. The photo album has eight black and white photos from the performance. The album is stamped with a knight and castle design on the front cover. Covers rubbed and stained, corner bends, front cover is coming loose; photos have come loose from their corners, small paper remnants on corners, holograph pen captioned pages; followed by eight pages of mounted newspaper clipped reviews of the show from October 7th and 8th, 1934. Otherwise in overall very good condition. From the William E. Fredeman Collection.
