Bette Davis. The Lonely Life. An Autobiography. New York: G. P. Putnam's Sons, [1962]. First edition. Inscribed by Davis to Bryan Forbes on second half-title preceding first page of text, "Bryan / To have you / want an autograph / of a book of mine / is indeed a com-- / pliment -- you are / such a fine / writer. / Love / Bette." Octavo. 315, [5, blank] pages. Sixteen double-sided leaves of black-and-white photographic reproductions. Publisher's dark red cloth, spine lettered in gilt; text block edges trimmed; original dust jacket. Spine ends slightly rolled; a bit of mild soiling to cloth. Text block very faintly yellowed with age; U-shaped tear at head of first leaf of text. Jacket generally rather worn, particularly at spine and flap fold ends; spine panel lightly sunned; a couple of closed tears at head of front panel, the longest extending down about three inches, with added color applied to tears at recto and clear tape reinforcement at verso; price-clipped.
