Beatrix Potter. The Fairy Caravan. Philadelphia: David McKay Company, [1929]. First edition. Quarto. 225, [1, blank] pages. Frontispiece and five additional full-color plates; full-page illustrations; head- and tail-pieces. Publisher's green cloth, spine lettered in gilt, front with illustrated paper label; all text block edges trimmed. Spine ends pushed and starting to fray; light wear to surface of cloth, particularly at edges; corners tapped, with boards just starting to peek through cloth. Hinges repaired; a small amount of very faint smudging to endpapers; text block softly dulled with age; a few minor scratches at text block edges. Very good.

[Together with:] Two copies of The Tale of Little Pig Robinson. London: Frederick Warne & Co., [1930]. First edition. Quarto. 96 pages. Frontispiece and five additional full-color plates; full-page illustrations. Publisher's light blue cloth, spine lettered in dark brown, front with lettering, ruled border, and vignette in dark brown, title lettering in gilt; all text block edges trimmed. Both bindings unevenly sunned at spines and board edges with fairly light shelf wear; boards of one copy bowed. Previous owner markings at both front free endpapers; faint specks of foxing to endpapers. Text block edges discolored and a bit soiled, particularly on top edge of one copy; occasional marginal staining, spot-soiling, and other evidence of handling scattered throughout interior. Very good.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
