Publisher's first-issue dark red cloth, spine and front board lettered in gilt; top edge stained dark red, others rough-trimmed. Backstrip very faintly dulled; spine ends and corners rubbed; corners softly bumped; occasional very faint blemish; small splash to rear board; some gilt lettering very faintly tarnished. Rear hinge cracked between terminal blanks but still holding firm; couple small bruises at upper edge of rear paste down. A very good copy. Source material for the 1949 King Vidor film, starring Gary Cooper and Patricia Neal, from a screenplay by the author. From the KoKo Collection.
