    First edition. Presentation copy, inscribed by Rand to Ginger Rogers' mother on the front free endpaper: "To Lela E. Rogers- / -Affectionately- / Ayn Rand / 8/22/57." Octavo. [viii], [1171], [3, blank] pages.

    Publisher's green cloth, front cover stamped in gilt, spine stamped in gilt and black. In the original illustrated dust jacket. Jacket spine very slightly browned, one scuffed tear on spine near top, one small tear at tailcap and the lower edge of the front panel, minor rubbing to cloth, bookplate, slightly over-opened at title page. Still, a bright, near fine copy. Housed in quarter green morocco clamshell case with cloth onlays on front panel mimicking the artwork on the front of the jacket.
