Ayn Rand. Atlas Shrugged. New York: Random House, 1957. First edition, first printing, in first issue dust jacket. Publisher's green cloth. Original price-clipped first issue dust jacket with "10/57" on the front flap and publisher's name and address on the rear flap. Previous owner's name. Some pages creased. Overall, very good condition.

    More Information:

    Octavo. viii, 1,168 pages.

Minor shelf wear to the book. Previous owner's signature on the front free endpaper. One vertical crease to the half-title and title page. Light vertical crease near the fore-edge from the front free endpaper to page 46. Minor chipping and rubbing to dust jacket edges. A few closed tears to the panel edges and at the middle of the front spine fold. Small hole in jacket on front panel. Tape remnants to the rear board. All in all, a very good copy.

Exercising her own individualistic, egocentric philosophy of Objectivism, Ayn Rand considered Atlas Shrugged her magnum opus. "Individuals of the mind" strike against society, refusing to share their work with the rest of the world. Stressing the primacy of private property ownership and laissez-faire capitalism, Rand argues against any kind of government intervention in the lives of individual citizens, referring to mandated "self sacrifice" as the downfall of society.
