Arthur Miller. Situation Normal... New York: Reynal & Hitchcock, [1944]. First edition of the author's first book, signed by Miller on the title-page, with a seven-page typescript laid in, summarizing the conception of the book and detailing meetings with Ernie Pyle about adapting Here Is Your War for Lester Cowan in what would eventually become, without credit to Miller, William A. Wellman's The Story of G. I. Joe starring Robert Mitchum. Octavo. [x], 179, [3, blank] pages. Publisher's vivid yellow cloth, front board and spine lettered in red and black, in original dust jacket. Board edges very lightly dulled, with small, faint tidemark at lower edge of rear board. Small, faint mark to front pastedown, slightly over-opened at title-page. Rear panel of dust jacket lightly soiled. A very good, or better, copy with a wonderful account of events early in Miller's career. From the collection of Donald Kaufmann.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
