Terry Ramsaye. A Million and One Nights. A History of the Motion Picture. New York: Simon and Schuster, 1926. First edition, limited issue, limited to 327 copies, of which this is number sixty, and signed by the author and Thomas A. Edison. Two volumes; quarto (10.375 x 7 inches; 264 x 179 mm.). lxx, [2, fly title], 400 pages; [iv], 401-868 pages; limitation leaf tipped to the front endpaper of the first volume; frontispieces and numerous illustrated plates inserted throughout. Publisher's deluxe quarter-pigskin over paste paper-covered boards, spines lettered and ruled in black; top edges gilt, others untrimmed. Backstrips darkened and somewhat worn; spine ends worn with two chips to the crown of the second volume; board edges worn with some tears and flaking to the paper, some paper loss; corners bumped. Page edges with some occasional marginal thumbsoiling; very infrequent underlining (in blue and red ink) with very brief marginal notes, only noticed on a few pages in the second volume. Very good. A major early survey of the U. S. film industry. According to notes from the consignor, this is from the collection of Pete Smith, who worked in the publicity department of Paramount, with his copy of "The Story of the Famous Players-Lasky Corporation." Viejo 4.2.
