Ilya and Vera Repin. Three Autograph Letters Signed. 1926-1928. Three autograph letters to Vsevolod Leonidovich from painter Ilya Repin, the founder Russian Realism, with one letter from Repin's daughter Vera Repina (on verso of Ilya Repin's letter). Together, four letters on three sheets approximately 8.5 x 11 inches (215 x 278 mm.) and one sheet approximately 8.5 x 14.5 inches (215 x 360 mm.). Paper lightly toned, with some chips around the edges and typical folds, the third letter separating at the fold on page one, else very good.

    More Information:

The first is a two-page letter on a single sheet dated 14/10/1926, a wonderful exuberant letter thanking the recipient for an article on the monumental sculpture of Stasov and the music of Wagner and relating an anecdote about a colleague who injured himself: "I am inclined to believe that Apollo punished him for his betrayal of art." An excellent long letter with significant art-related content. The second is a one-page letter dated 24 July 1928, the other side of which contains a letter from Vera Repina, daughter of Ilya, dated August 6, 1928, in which Repin extolls in enthusiastic terms the merits of being alive, even as an old man, and the beauties of creation. The final letter is three pages, dated 16/VIII/1926, regarding an article about Mussorgsky and containing Repin's thoughts about the composer. The letter is a virtual panegyric to the beauty of Mussorgsky's art and his exceptional personal characteristics.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
