    Description

With Twelve Beautiful Engravings by Charles M. Russell

Charles M. Russell. Pen Sketches By Charles M. Russell The Cowboy Artist. [Great Falls, Montana: W.T. Ridgley Printing Company, n.d., 1899]. Apparent variant of the third edition (the second plate if "Blazing the Trail" instead of "Initiated," which is omitted, but the cloth binding appears to be first edition, but the size is a bit larger). Oblong folio. With twelve black and white sketches on thick card stock, each preceded by a hand-cut page with descriptive text. Publisher's original beige cloth over boards, with gilt lettering and decoration on the front board, including a Native American in profile and a flower. Some rubbing, minor soiling to binding, some 'bubbling' of cloth on rear board, overopened in a few pages, and some plates a bit loose. Shaken. Still, a good copy.
