Charles Keene. Our People... from the Collection of "Mr. Punch." [London:] Bradbury, Agnew & Co., 1881. First edition. From the Collection of Judith Adelman.

    More Information:

Charles Keene. Our People. from the Collection of "Mr. Punch." [London:] Bradbury, Agnew & Co., 1881. First edition. Elspeth Challoner's copy (she was the daughter of Joseph Crawhall II, who collaborated with Keene on these drawings), with an Autograph Letter Signed by Keene affixed to the front free endpaper. This copy is inscribed by Elspeth from her husband, Frederick Challoner on the front free endpaper. This copy with a bookmark-like Christmas card additionally affixed to the front free endpaper, and a prospectus of a biography of Keene and contemporary newspaper article tipped-in. Folio. Approximately 14.25 x 10 inches. 155 pages. Original free endleaves still present. Disbound (originally issued in boards), spine perished, some wear, creases. Fair. Chemised in clamshell case.  From the Collection of Judith Adelman.

In the letter, Keene asks the daughter of his (often uncredited) collaborator to ask her maid if the maid has found his "two small Postmaster keys tied to a pebble" which he had left behind at her home. Elspeth Challoner's father, Joseph Crawhall II, supplied Keene with hundreds of drawings for Punch Magazine, but seldom received the credit that he deserved: "However good Keene's intentions may have been, he never did find time to acknowledge indebtedness to Crawhall . Yet much of his reputation for humour as well as the iconographic structure of his funniest drawings is directly attributable to Crawhall." (Felver).

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
