Braun (1809-1856), was first secretary of the Archaeological Institute of Rome (1840-1856). Braun initially studied archaeology and philosophy in Gottingen, then moved to Munich, later Dresden, and 1833 to Berlin, from where he followed Gerhard to Rome. He was the first to publish the Francois Vase after its finding and assembly.
