Small quarto. Thirty-six engraved plates with accompanying textual descriptions, lacking Plate I. Original calf over boards, title label on spine. Boards rubbed and scuffed, board edges slightly worn, corners bumped, front board detaching, rear joint cracking. Text block lightly cockled, pages moderately browned and soiled with some staining, pages mildly foxed, and page edges a bit chipped, versos of plates 35 and 37 with ink annotation, the latter dated "1811" and "1842." Plates 25, 31, and 32 with closed tears, the longest on plate 25 measuring 4.25 inches and affecting the illustration; plate 33 fold tear tape-repaired on verso with small wormhole. A good copy of the first book on architecture by an American printed in the United States.
