    Four color illustrations of surreal tarot images by the Chilean artist Roberto Matta (1911-2002), which are mounted on blank pages tipped into the book. Signed by the author on page [7]. Paper cover (with glassine protective covering). Copy 118 of 300 printed on Oxbow paper. Printed by Albert Martin, Inc., New York. Near fine. Octavo (6.5" x 9"), [1-8], 9-176, [177-178] uncut pages. This unique work by Surrealist Andre Breton (1896-1966), which takes its title from the Star card in the Tarot deck, is based on the theme of Arcanum 17, the Utopian quest for "light," which "can only be known by way of three paths: poetry, liberty, and love."
