    Alfred Stieglitz. Camera Work. New York: Alfred Stieglitz, January, 1915. First edition, Number XLVII. Presentation copy, inscribed by Stieglitz to New Yorker caricaturist Alfred Frueh on the first blank, "What is 'Sincerity'? / That's the next Question I'll / have to ask? - Then what / is 'Life'. And so on, ad / infinitum / Perpetual Motion / beaten out of sight. As a / souvenir of a Saturday afternoon / at 291- / To Frueh- / Stieglitz / March 13-1915. / [flourish]." On page 11 are two pencil sketches of male figures unsigned (but possibly by Frueh, given the provenance). Quarto (12 x 8.25 inches; 300 x 208 mm.). 74, [2, blank], [12, ads] pages. Original printed wrappers. Front wrapper loose and worn, lower front corner chipped, spine perished, some wear in text. Good. The "291" referred to in Stieglitz' inscription is his gallery and salon, in which he displayed the work of newly-discovered artists and photographers, one of whom was Frueh.
