[Walter Herdeg, editor]. Graphis. International Journal of Graphic Art and Applied Art. Zurich: The Graphis Press, 1967-1977.

    More Information:

Sixty-five issues of Graphis magazine. [together with:] Ten volumes of the Graphis Annual. International Annual of Advertising Graphics. Zurich: The Graphis Press, 1969-1978. From the Estate of Rod McKuen.

Text in English, French, and German. Magazine issue numbers 129 to 194, in twelve red cloth covered clam shell boxes [five magazines per box] with leather title/year spine labels. Seven issues in the series are missing [147, 183, 184, 185, 187, 190, and 191] and seven of the issues present are duplicates [173, 174, 177, 179, 180, 181, and 182.] One of the clam shell boxes is a duplicate of 1975.

The magazines have light shelf wear, minor cover soiling and creases, covers of issue 188 detached, and few cuts in approximately six of the earlier issues with minor paper loss; otherwise in very good condition.

Ten volumes of Graphis Annual, one of which is a duplicate of number 77. Few minor square shaped discolorations on front endpapers from sticky notes, Volume 78 is still in shrink wrap. Dust jackets with light edge wear, corner bends, creases, few small edge tears; else in very good condition.

A remarkable magazine dedicated to the study and promotion of the graphic arts field in all of its incarnations, including design, photography, art, and advertising. The magazine has articles and stunning illustrations of works which range from the ancient civilizations of Egypt, Peru, and Scythia; up until the modern era of art, featuring the likes of Dali, Fellini, Folon, Posada, Maurice Sendak, Ben Shahn, and some not as well-known experimental artists. Other subjects include, but are not limited to, Japanese calligraphy, Polish movie posters, science fiction book covers, bookplate art, scientific and anatomical illustrations, the art of The New York Times and Vogue, and many more. A fascinating collection for anyone interested in the world of graphic arts.
