One of 100 Copies on Handmade Paper

[Walter Crane, subject]. P. G. Konody. The Art of Walter Crane. London: George Bell & Sons, 1902. First edition, one of 100 copies on Arnold's handmade paper, this being number 11. Approximately 14.25 x 11.25 inches. Large folio. xiii, [1], 147, [1] pp. Eight photogravure plates, twenty-four color plates, sixty-six monochrome plates, two facsimile leaves, and numerous illustrations in the text. Title printed in red and black. With a tipped-in slip indicating that Crane only helped supply art and research, but had no hand in writing the text. Publisher's beige cloth backstrip over green cloth boards, boards decoratively stamped in gilt, spine lettered in gilt. Spine a bit browned with some mild wear, some rubbing and soiling to boards, some foxing to endleaves, a few gutters a bit overopened. Still, a near fine copy of this rare title.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
