    [Kahlil Gibran, illustrator]. Twenty Drawings. With an Introductory Essay by Alice Raphael. New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1919. First edition, limited to 100 copies, of which this is number 100, signed by Gibran on an inserted leaf. Large quarto. Unpaginated. Twenty plates, all black and white except the color frontispiece, all with captioned tissue guards. Introductory essay by Alice Raphael. Original vellum-backed gold paper-covered boards; spine lettered in gilt, front board stamped in orange. Boards significantly rubbed, with wear to edges and corners. Vellum soiled and rubbed. Very minor occasional creasing in text. Overall, a very good copy of Gibran's first book.

    More Information:

    A collection of the Lebanese poet's drawings, most of which are nudes. Rodin is quoted in Alice Raphael's introduction as having said: "I know of no one else in whom drawing and poetry are so linked together as to make him a new Blake."
