    [British Poets]. Portraits of the British Poets from Chaucer to Cowper and Beattie. London: W. Walkers, 1824. First edition of this large and impressive collection of engraved portraits. Two folio volumes. Approximately 13.5 x 9 inches. Each volume with engraved half-title, title-page and three pages of Contents. Bound in contemporary full red straight-grain morocco, boards elaborately ruled and paneled in gilt and blind, gilt floral cornerpieces, spines elaborately tooled in gilt and blind and lettered in gilt in compartments, four raised bands, gilt board edges and turn-ins, coated green endleaves, all edges gilt. Bindings worn, especially at spines, joints and hinges cracking, some foxing and occasional soiling to plates and leaves. Some gutters cracked. Bookplate of Lionel Phillips (1855-1936, South African Mine Owner and Politician) on each front pastedown. A good set with handsome engravings done by Wedgwood, Engleheart, Pye, and others.
