The best illustrated eighteenth-century edition of this title (originally published in 1684). Two quarto volumes. 10.25 x 7.75 inches. L, 489, [1, blank], [8, list of subscribers]; [4], viii, 460, [3, list of subscribers], [1, blank] pages. Half-titles present. With two engraved copper portraits, twenty-three (of twenty-four) plates, and two folding maps. Engraved vignettes throughout. Contemporary full tree calf, boards decoratively ruled in gilt, spines tooled and ruled in gilt in compartments, five raised bands. Lettering labels missing from spines. Bindings worn and scuffed, joints starting, a few tears to bindings, hinges cracking, free endpapers of volume I trimmed at fore-edge, some infrequent soiling and foxing in text, some foxing to plates, a few gutters cracked, marginal holes on two leaves (pages 357-360) barely touching text, both maps torn (map in volume I heavily torn with some holes). A fair set.
