First edition, one of 500 copies signed by Adams and numbered in Arabic Numerals (out of a total edition of 1,000, this copy being number "CCCV"). Oblong folio. [128] pages. Publisher's black morocco backstrip over gray cloth boards, front board and spine lettered in silver, dust jacket, original slipcase. With original Gelatin silver print, Fern Spring, Dusk, Yosemite Valley, California, ca. 1961. Photograph is drymounted on publisher's card with printed and numbered ("CCCV") paper label on verso and signed by Adams in pencil on mount beneath print. Minor soiling to jacket, printer's error on laminate of jacket front panel, the usual light wear and soiling to shipping box. Still, an excellent package, with the print in wonderful condition.

    More Information:

    Ansel Easton Adams (1902-1984) began to photograph professionally in 1930, and in 1932 was a founding member of the f/64 group in San Francisco, California. In 1940 he created the photography department at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, New York, along with Beaumont Newhall and David McAlpin. In 1941 Adams began to photograph landscapes. From 1942 to 1944 Adams acted as the photographic adviser to the United States Army. In 1962 Adams moved to Carmel, California where he founded the Friends of Photography in 1967. He continued to document the landscape of the American West.
