    William L.     McCalla was a controversial Presbyterian clergyman who traveled by sea to Galveston and then to Houston, Austin, San Antonio and Goliad. The first sixty pages are devoted to an account of this journey and give valuable insight into his character and religious beliefs. The remainder of the book is turned over to his largely favorable views of Texas, particularly its morals and character.

    Condition: Boards worn at the extremities; corners bumped and rounded; small areas of loss on the spine; front hinge broken causing the front board and portions of the text block to be loose; former owner's name on the front free endpaper; some toning and foxing to the preliminary and terminal pages, otherwise a very good copy.
