    Laws of Maryland

Thomas Bacon. Laws of Maryland at Large, with Proper Indexes. Now First Collected into One Compleat Body, and Published from the Original Acts and Records, Remaining in the Secretary's Office of the Said Province. Annapolis: Jonas Green, 1765.

First edition. Folio. [736] pages. Index.

Full leather over boards. Front board detached. Leather of the spine crumbling with some loss. There is some staining to the title page which continues through the first three dozen leaves. Scattered dampstaining throughout. Overall, a very good copy, internally sound and complete.

"Rev. Thomas Bacon, rector of All Saints' parish, in Frederick county, a man of great learning, excellence and intelligence, published his Laws of Maryland, giving the course of legislation in the province from the beginning down to 1764; a work well known, and indispensable to all students of Maryland history" (Scharf). Jonas Green's work in the making of Laws of Maryland is often cited as a high-water mark in early American printing.

Sabin 45186. John Thomas Scharf, History of Maryland, 362.
