Daniel Boone edition, limited issue of the Alleghany edition, limited to 200 copies, of which this is number 161, with a leaf of Roosevelt's original manuscript, containing over 200 words about The Cumberland Settlement, published in Volume Two on pages 348-349, with several edits and including a footnote referencing text not on the manuscript leaf, inserted at the front of Volume One. Four volumes, octavo (9.875 x 6.625 inches; 250 x 168 mm.). Illustrated with frontispieces, five folding maps inserted at the rear of each volume (two in Volume Two), and numerous illustrated plates inserted throughout, captioned tissue guards. Contemporary dark green half-morocco, spines in four compartments with three raised bands, lettered and ruled in gilt; marbled paper-covered boards; top edge gilt, others untrimmed; marbled endpapers; ribbon markers. General mild shelfwear; backstrips and upper portion of the rear board of the first volume, faded to brown; boards lightly rubbed with an occasional small bruise, fore-edge of marbled paper worn with some flaking and paper loss. Page edges, and the occasional margin, very lightly foxed; some offsetting caused by ribbon markers. Near fine. Howes R-433.
