Optimistically, he advises that "its successful or disastrous issue are all in prospect before you." Duelling is "the relic of a barbarous age, an excrescence which has fastened itself on the system of modern manners." He urges them to find something useful to do: "Is there no employment in the country worth pursuing, but politics?" AI 29935. Not in Sabin or Turnbull.
