Sixty-Eight Issues from the first Six Years of Playboy Magazine, Including the First Issue Featuring Marilyn Monroe

Playboy Magazine. Chicago: HMH Publishing, Co., 1953-1959. Sixty-eight quarto issues. Issues include: December, 1953 (the first issue, with the Marilyn Monroe nude one-page color photo; this issue is lacking the front and rear wrappers and has some ink marks), issues from April, 1954 to December, 1954 (issues either lacking both wrappers, or have the magazine's title excised from the front wrapper), the entire year of 1955 (except for the March issue; a few issues with magazine's title excised from the front wrapper), the entire years of 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959. The usual wear to wrappers (but some with ink markings, some with scuff-marks). Generally a good collection. The cultural significance of this magazine cannot be ignored. Using a savvy blend of sex, humor, cartoons, and literary and non-fiction articles, Playboy became and has remained one of the most popular magazines in the United States. Since we know you are only interested in the articles, contributors found in issues of this collection include: Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, W. Somerset Maugham, John Steinbeck, and Jack Kerouac.
