Mary J. Jaques. Texan Ranch Life; With Three Months Through Mexico in a "Prairie Schooner." London: Horace Cox, 1894. First edition. Octavo. xii, 363 pages. Photographic plates. Publisher's original brown cloth with titles and decoration stamped in gilt on the spine and front board.

"Mary Jacques was an Englishwoman who spent two years in America from 1889-1891. The last part of this rare book describes a trip to Mexico shortly before her return to England, and an earlier trip to the West Coast, but a good part of the work deals with her ranch experiences. Much surprised her, but she took it in her cultured stride." - Reese, Six Score.

Condition: Boards moderately worn along the edges with spotting and discoloration along the front edge of the front board, at the lower portion of the spine and edge of the rear board. Slight slant to text block. Light toning to pages with occasional light to moderate foxing (especially on the plates) and with occasional marginal lines in ink, contemporary owner's name and label remnant on the flyleaf, still near very good condition.
