    Major General William Tecumseh Sherman (1820-1891, American Military Leader). Signed Check. Saint Louis, Mo., Dec. 29, 1865. Approximately 2.5 x 7.75 inches. Signed on verso by Sherman as an endorsement. Check drawn on the Second National Bank of St. Louis, on their printed check, with the engraved symbol of the Government Depository and Financial Agent of the United States on the left side of the check. Check is made out to Sherman for the amount of $220.40, and is signed by an unreadable treasury representative. Some creases and minor rubbing to check, else fine. The check is matted, framed and glazed with the verso of the check with Sherman's signature facing outward. Additionally, the check is framed with a color facsimile of the recto of the check, a contemporary engraved portrait of Sherman, and an engraved plaque describing Sherman's life. Size of frame approximately 27 x 12 inches. A handsome item. From the James and Deborah Boyd Collection.
