Lloyd, Charles: THE CONDUCT OF THE LATE ADMINISTRATION EXAMINED, RELATIVE TO THE AMERICAN STAMP-ACT. WITH AN APPENDIX CONTAINING ORIGINAL AND AUTHENTIC DOCUMENTS. THE SECOND EDITION. London: 1767. 160, (2), liv, (2) pp. Disbound. Light fox and wear. Very Good. The Second Edition, reissued without alteration except for new title wording. Attributed to Charles Lloyd, George Grenville's Secretary, it was issued without a half-title. "Covers the period July 1765 to Mch 1766. It is a strong defence of the principles of the Stamp Act which had been repealed by the Ministry which came into Office in July 1765. A Second Edition was issued in the same year." Stevens 55. Lloyd insists that the administration chose local persons and local courts to execute the Act, thus acting with exquisite regard for colonial sensibilities. Political and other acts of resistance and riot in the colonies are described, as well as actions of parliament and the British government. SECOND EDITION. Howes L405. Adams Controversy 66-36b. Adams Independence 52b. Sabin 15203. Stevens Rare Americana 56.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
