Paris: Librairie de L. Hachette et Cie, 1867. First edition. Octavo. (6), iii, 607 pages. Title page in red and black, color frontispiece of "La Famille du Carbone" and numerous other illustrations and maps, several in color. Includes images of various mineralogical specimens, mining equipment and different forms of mining disasters. Half calf over marbled paper covered boards, five raised spine bands with gilt lettered title label and gilt decorations in compartments. Matching marbled edged and endpapers. Binding rubbed, scuffs and loss of surface leather, backstrip tears with loss to upper compartment, leather label cracked and worn, front board detaching, rear board starting. Pages with some image-offset from illustrations, occasional foxing, and few over-opened pages. Very good candidate for rebinding.
