New York: Harper & Brothers, 1846. First edition.

    Two octavo volumes. xxiii, 567; xv, 595 pp. Two hand-colored maps. Engravings. Modern polished black calf stamped in blind and bordered with a single gilt rule on the boards, spine stamped in gilt and blind in compartments with four raised bands, and lettered in gilt on crushed red morocco labels. Edges plain on volume I, all edges gilt on volume II. Light dampstain to lower fore-edge corners of part of volume I, intermittent moderate foxing and some light soiling. Very good.

    Final chapter concerns the re-annexation of Texas. The colored map at the beginning of Volume II is Texas of 1836, engraved by W. Kemble. "Probably the best of the numerous books on western history" (Sabin).
