    A Scarce Work, Inscribed by the Author

    John Preston Young. The Seventh Tennessee Cavalry. (Confederate.) A History. Nashville: [M. E. Church] 1890.

    First edition. Inscribed by the author to General Stephen D. Lee on the flyleaf. Octavo. 227 pages. Engraved portrait of Nathan Bedford Forrest used as frontispiece. Three additional plates under tissue guards with engraved portraits of miscellaneous officers of the regiment.

    Modern black leather with titles stamped in gilt on the spine. Endpapers renewed. The contents are clean, albeit slightly toned. University of Virginia perforated stamp at the bottom of page 53. A few pencil tick marks throughout text. The original endpaper with the author's inscription has been used as the flyleaf. A generally fine copy of a scarce work.

    The author was a member of Company A of the 7th Tennessee. Includes a valuable roster of the officers and men of the regiment with remarks noting wounds, deaths, etc.
