John Marshall. The Life of George Washington... London: 1804. First English edition. Five octavo vols. Contemporary binding. Very good.

    More Information:

Five large octavo volumes. xxxvi, 573, 574-579; viii, 633; viii, 572; viii, 684; viii, 841, 842-843, [844, list of engravings], [1, publisher's ads]. Illustrated with ten fold-out maps and two illustrated folding frontispieces, a Washington portrait frontispiece, and a vignette. Bound without most ads, else complete. Bound in contemporary full diced russia, boards double-ruled in gilt, and decoratively ruled in blind. All volumes rebacked to style in later brown calf, spines tooled and ruled in gilt in compartments, five raised bands, blue and green gilt morocco lettering labels. Spines sunned and rubbing, some wear to boards, some offsetting to endleaves, inkstamps and signatures to title-pages (they has been an attempt to wash these out, causing two title-pages to be torn and subsequently repaired), text somewhat toned and occasionally foxed, some maps closely trimmed or with short tears. Otherwise, a very good set.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
