James T. DeShields. Cynthia Ann Parker. The Story of Her Capture. At the Massacre of the Inmates of Parker's Fort; of her Quarter of a Century Spent Among the Comanches, as the Wife of the War Chief, Peta Nocona; and of her Recapture at the Battle of Pease River, by Captain L. S. Ross, of the Texian Rangers. St. Louis: Printed for the author by Charles B. Woodward, 1886. First edition. Octavo. 80 pages. Illustrated. Publisher's original blind-stamped green cloth with titles stamped in gilt on the front board. Floral endpapers.

Cynthia Ann Parker was captured by the Comanche in 1836 at the age of nine, and lived among them for 24 years before being recaptured and returned to "civilization." She died in 1864, leaving two children, one of whom, Quanah Parker, born in 1854, would grow up to be a great Comanche leader. A fascinating tale.

Condition: Good. Moderate shelf-wear and scuffing to boards with fraying at the spine ends. Pages toned, as is usual. Former owner's name erased from rear pastedown.

    Reference: Graff 1064. Howes D 278. Raines, p. 67.
